Hebrews 10:22

Beloved in the Lord, let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grant us forgiveness.

Psalm 124:8; 32:5

Our help is in the name of the Lord.

Who made heaven and earth.

I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.

And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Psalm 51:5; 1 John 1:8-9

Almighty God, our maker and redeemer, we poor sinners confess to you, that we are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. Therefore, we flee for refuge to your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring your grace, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

O most merciful God, who has given your only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us, and for his sake grant us remission of all our sins: and by your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of you, and of your will, and true obedience to your Word, to the end that by your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

John 3:16; 1:12; Mark 16:16

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy on us, and has given his only Son to die for us, and for his sake forgives us all our sins. To them that believe in his name, he gives power to become the sons of God and bestows on them his Holy Spirit. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved. Grant this, O Lord, to us all. Amen.

The New Testament Reading is from Philippians 3:17–21.

¹⁷ Join in imitating me, brothers, and pay attention to those who walk in this way, according to the example you have in us. ¹⁸ For many walk, whom I have often told you about, and now I tell you with tears, as enemies of the cross of Christ: ¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose God is the belly, and glory is in their shame, who are thinking of earthly things. ²⁰ For our citizenship is in the heavens, from which also we await a Saviour: the Lord Jesus Christ, ²¹ who will transform our body of humiliation to have the same form as his body of glory, according to the energy that empowers him even to submit to himself all things.

The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 22:15–22.

Glory be to You, O Lord.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went and took counsel so that they might trap him in what he said. ¹⁶ And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and you teach the way of God in truth, and you are not influenced by anyone, for you do not regard the status of men. ¹⁷ Therefore, tell us what you think: is it lawful to pay the tax to Caesar or not?" ¹⁸ But knowing their wickedness, Jesus said, "Why test me, hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the coin for the tax." And they brought him a denarius. ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness is this, and whose inscription?" ²¹ They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Therefore give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." ²² And hearing it they marvelled, and leaving him they went away.

The Sacrament of the Altar

I. Deutsche Messe

The Exhortation to Prayer

Dear friends in Christ, we are gathered together in Jesus' name, to receive his Holy Covenant. Therefore, trust God. And let us pray together the 'Our Father' as Jesus taught us. He faithfully promised us that the Father will give us whatever we ask in Jesus' name.

The pastor leads the congregation in prayer, either using the Litany, in whole or part, or a Paraphrase of the Our Father.

The Prayers of the Church

The Exhortation to the Lord’s Supper

I encourage you to trust in Christ's promises and pay careful attention to Christ's Covenant. Especially trust the Word where Jesus says His Body and Blood are "given for you for the forgiveness of sins."

Take this seriously: Thank Him for the infinite love He has shown you. Because through His Blood He has redeemed you from God's wrath, from sin, from death, and from hell.

Then outwardly eat and drink the bread and wine, which truly are His body and blood, as a sure guarantee of this forgiveness. This is how we use Christ's New Covenant: in His name and as He commanded us.

The Sanctus

Isa 6:3; Matt 21:9; Mark 11:9-10; Luke 19:38; John 12:13; Rev 4:8

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Heaven and earth are full of thy glory!

Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is he that comes in the Lord's name.

The Words of Institution

Matt 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-23; 1 Cor 11:23-25

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night He was betrayed, took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying: “Take, eat; this is my ☩ body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

The pastor may invite the congregation to come forward to receive the bread.

Matt 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-23; 1 Cor 11:23-25

In the same way, after Supper, He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying: “Drink this, all of you; this is my ☩ blood of the new covenant, poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

If you are a Church member, please come to the front to receive the Body and Blood. If not a member, please come for a blessing.

The Exhortation after Communion

John 6:53-58; 14:27

The true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen and preserve you in body and soul to everlasting life. Go in peace to ☩ love and serve the Lord.

Amen. Thanks be to God.

Please return to your seats.
