Can I Come to Church If I Don’t Believe?

Yes. You are welcome.

At Manchester Lutheran Church we’ve had atheists, Muslims, and people from a variety of backgrounds visit, including from other churches that believe completely different things to us.

You don’t need to pretend to believe anything.

What happens?

From 10:45am, we have refreshments together and chat.

At 11am, our formal service starts. During the service we say some words together, hear readings from the Bible, listen to a sermon, sing hymns and receive Communion.

At 11:45am, we have a discussion based on the Bible around tables. This is also a chance to ask questions.

By 12:30pm, we are finished, and most Sundays everyone is invited back to Pastor Pete’s house for lunch.

You don’t need to know what to do.

You can sit at the back and just watch.

If you want to participate, everything we say in the service together is written down in bold, and others around you will help you.

You don’t need to take Communion

Receiving Communion together is a key way that members of a Confessional Lutheran Church publicly express their shared confession of faith. On most Sundays there are visitors, children and people exploring membership who don’t receive Communion.

During Communion, you’re very welcome to come to the front to receive a blessing with others, or to remain seated and watch.

You don’t need to be “good enough”

The whole point is that none of us are good enough. We gather around God’s Word to receive his forgiveness, not celebrate our brilliance. That’s literally what the church is.

So, come and join us as we receive this forgiveness together:
